Lawrence Krader — (1919-1998)
American socialist anthropologist and ethnologist.
Krader studied philosophy at the City College of New York, and linguistics at Columbia University. He served in the merchant navy during WWII and spent part of the war in Leningrad, where he learned Russian.
Krader held various professorships at American University in Washington, DC, and University of Waterloo in Canada. He was Secretary-General of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences for twelve years and Director at the Free University of Berlin.
